Lance Armstrong's RadioShack team has been granted a four-year Pro-Tour licence that guarantees them entry into next year's Tour de France.

Armstrong, who returned to cycling after an absence of more than three years to ride for Kazakh-based team Astana in 2009, announced the creation of RadioShack during Le Tour.

The 38-year-old Texan has already poached former Astana team-mates Levi Leipheimer and Andreas Kloden for the new team, while Belgian manager and close friend Johan Bruyneel is also set to sign up.

UCI president Pat McQuaid said last month that the governing body's licence commission wanted more details of Bruyneel's role before accepting RadioShack to the ProTour.

Teams must provide proof of secure finances, management structure and anti-doping program to gain a license.

"Following the examination of a request received, the licence commission has awarded a four-year UCI ProTour licence for the period 2010 to 2013 to Team RadioShack," the UCI said in a statement.

The team will compete for the first time in the Tour Down Under in January.
